6th Brockham Bike Ride
6th Annual Big
Brockham Bike Ride
The 6th Big Brockham Bike Ride was held on Sunday 5th June with
proceeds for 2011 going to support young people in Brockham.
Sponsorship money and donations will be shared between the Brockham
Youth Council and Brockham Guides.
Despite a rather gloomy, and occasionally wet, day over 40
riders came along to ride the now famous family favourite 5m route
starting at Old School Lane, out through Gadbrook and Betchworth
with a well earned stop at The Dolphin. Riders included George
Simons who was celebrating his 8th birthday and a
rousing chorus of 'Happy Birthday' sent him on his way. For the
sixth consecutive year the Tuesday Club boys supported this event
with a group of 10 riders setting out in their
waterproofs.
There was a more challenging 'Olympic' route also available to
the more ambitious riders. This was a 17m route including the Box
Hill zigzag that took riders on part of the route to be used for
the Olympic route in 2012. Only 2 riders attempted this challenging
route, one of whom was 8yr old Toby Cobbold. Squash and gingerbread
men were greatly appreciated on their return. All riders received
certificates and stickers.

Thanks to everyone who supported us this event including the
volunteers who helped set up, advertise and man the event and Tim
Hines and Callum Ritchie from Brockham Youth Council who acted as
official photographers. Thanks as well to all those who
cycled 5m to raise over £200 for our two causes. Much of this will
also have 28% gift aid added. Congratulations to Joshua Hamilton,
Chair of Brockham Youth Council, who cycled the 5m route and raised
£65 in sponsorship. Well done Joshua!
