Latest from The Shop at Strood Green
Our Pumpkin Fest at The Shop was a great success and we sold many pumpkins and squashes, all locally grown. This was our last fundraising event before the builders ripped the place apart!
Building work is now under way and the next three months will see the premises transformed. The shop front has been designed and is being constructed off-site, ready for fitting in the New Year. Lots of work is going on behind the scenes! We are confident that we can open in March 2009. We have now raised over £60,000 in donations, share sales and grants (including £20,000 from SEEDA and £20,000 from ViRSA), plus a £20,000 loan. We are still selling shares, which are really worth having as shareholders get regular updates and also have a vote at the AGM.
We have been incredibly fortunate in having a lot of people offering their various skills on a voluntary basis, and many companies have offered favourable rates. This has saved us hundreds and hundreds of pounds so far. It is also vital to have the support of our community organisations and we wish to thank the following for their generous contributions:
Sidney Michael Poland Trust
Brockham Vicarage Trust
Brockham Parish Council
Brockham Bonfire Limited
Brockham Good Companions
Gatwick Airport Community Trust
Leigh Residents’ Association
Midmar Energy
Unum
Brockham Evening Women’s Institute
The individuals are too numerous to mention but we shall be having an ‘honours board’ in The Shop!
