The Essential Guide to BROCKHAM VILLAGE
WEEKEND
FRIDAY:-
Coming soon to Brockham Village Green - Victorian Fun Fair with
Galloping Horses and Brockham Bonfire Catering Stall.
SATURDAY:-
Many Charities and Organisations have already booked their stall
space, Teas on the Green. Dancing by "Steps", a demonstration by
Dorking Judo Club and the Kickbox and Karate Club. Brockham Art
Show and Sale will be in the Old Chapel (Next to the Dukes
Head). For the evening, Village Picnic with prizes for the
best decorated table. Please don't try to set up your picnic before
5.30pm (the village stocks are available). We need time to
clear the Fete before the evening can begin. Fun Fair.
This year Brockham Scouts are holding a fund raising raffle at
the Brockham Village Weekend Fete on Saturday 17th July
2010. There will be some fantastic prizes with a "Flavour of
France", including a bottle of Calvados supplied by our kind host
M. le Clerc.
As usual the Scout Bus will have a prominent position on
Brockham Green and from here we will be serving cream teas. Please
come and support us by treating yourselves to a cup of tea and
scone and enter our competition. You never know you might be a
lucky winner.
Funds raised will help go towards their summer camp, which this
year will take them back to Trois Mont, Normandy, France. They will
venture forth again on the Scout Bus, leaving Brockham at 4.30am
and taking an early morning ferry crossing from Portsmouth to
Caen.
This is not the first time the Scout Troop and the bus have made
this journey, in fact our host M. Le Clerc has kindly allowed us to
pitch our tents in the vast grounds of his Chateau, on the
Vaugroult Estate on three previous occasions in 2001, 1981 And
1977. Our host was a young boy during WW2 and sadly witnessed harsh
times during the German occupation of Normandy. He is now famous
for the production of a rather fine Calvados.
It promises to be an exciting trip as we have a busy itinerary
planned including a visit to a war cemetery and the town of
Arramanches where one of the Mulberry Harbours was constructed to
land troops and vehicles during the D Day landings. We also plan to
do some hiking and kayaking and if we're lucky squeeze in a little
bit of relaxation too.
Music:
Live music at the Village Weekend.
Once again, the Brockham Village Weekend will feature live
music from local bands to entertain you whilst you set out your
picnics and relax into the evening.
The live music will start at about 5:00 with local school-age
bands Neuphoria and The Fecked, playing to friends, family and
fans.
Neuphoria are a five-piece band featuring a line-up of two
girl vocalists, keyboards, guitar, bass and drums. Their upbeat
music is the perfect start to a summer evening.
The Fecked are a four-piece band who debuted at last year's
event. Fronted by vocalist Lorna Scott, this year they promise to
include a Ukelele at some point in their eclectic mix of
self-penned numbers!
At 7.00 the Brockham-based vocal group Revelation - who have
performed at the event for past four years - will take to the stage
to entertain you with listenable, danceable music for all
ages.
Brian Cannon's Musical Entertainment will continue throughout
the evening - finishing with a Firework Display as usual. (Weather
Permitting).
"Teas on the Green" will be served in the Church Hall Saturday
and Sunday.
Other Catering Teams will be serving throughout the afternoon
and evening:-
Sausages, Burgers, Bacon Rolls and Cones of Chips.
Hopefully Strawberries and Cream and Crispy Do-Nuts will also be
on sale from various stalls.
Find the poles for the gazebo and prepare for another memorable
Village Picnic (Saturday Evening). Look out for the unique
"Brockham Balloon Arch" once again. Gather your friends,
families and neighbours together - the picnic goes on whatever the
weather.
COME ALONG AND JOIN IN THE FUN - The theme this year is
70 years of Guiding in Brockham.
A collection will be made during the evening to help towards the
Event Costs, Fireworks and Insurance, which is again provided by
Brockham Bonfire Committee's Public Liability Cover, and attracts
an annual premium of around £6,500.
