Notes for January 2012 Meeting

Notes from the Parish Council, January 2012

First of all, on behalf of the Parish Council, I wish everybody a happy and peaceful New Year.

Our meeting began with a discussion about the flooding that had affected Strood Green over the first few days of January. This was a problem that we thought had been resolved when it last happened in 2009 - obviously not ! Despite the efforts of locals with suitable equipment they were unable to prevent flooding of several homes in Middle Street and Tynedale Road.  The latest information that we have is that officials from Surrey County Council aided by Strood Green residents, have identified several possible causes and will be attempting to remedy them over the next week or so....

We  thank the Ross family for once again providing the lighting display on the bus shelter along Brockham lane although the high winds did try and sabotage them !

The Youth Council submitted a detailed report of their activities during 2011 showing that they have been going from strength to strength. They thank everybody who has provided financial support during the year. Currently, they are attempting to raise £1000  by collecting old mobile telephones for recycling. Their target is 200 `phones and if anyone has any they can be taken to the Youth Cafe on Wednesdays or to 74 Nutwood Avenue.

Further developments on the Elisabeth Bailey Field include the arrival of some new goalposts, which, by the time this is read, should be installed.

Work has been started on the replacement of the surface on the Borough Bridge which is an improved version of the original. We are reliably informed that it should last for 20 years. All should be completed within two weeks.

The refurbishment of the pump on the green which we are considering as a Jubilee project, is currently in the hands of MVDC who are obtaining quotes from their contacts for us to consider - more next month - we expect.

The team working on the Jubilee Weekend celebrations, at the time of writing , is arranging a meeting to be held in the village hall for Brockham residents to contribute their thoughts. The plan is for these to take place over that weekend and will replace the usual July village weekend.

Date for the diary : Allotments meeting April 10th.
