BROCKHAM PARISH COUNCIL - Notes from our August meeting
Police Report - Community Support Officer Ivor Williams attended in place of our local PC, Dom Loraine. Among other matters, he reported two more burglaries in Brockham. His advice is to mark valuable possessions with an ultraviolet pencil (the marks show up under ultraviolet light); make sure your side gates are in good order and locked when you are out, and, of course, do not leave valuables around where they can be seen through your windows by an intruder. NOTE: Ivor Williams has a supply of u/v pencils available.
War Memorial Fund - A stall at the Village Weekend fair raised £1,200 toward a new stone cross and complete refurbishment for the memorial; a focal point in our churchyard. The Parish Council is acting as 'banker' and account-keeper for monies raised. The initiative for this welcome work was from the local Royal British Legion.
Big Field Expansion Plans -A meeting was brought about by the Poland Trust in late July with representatives of the National Trust (whose field it is) and Parsh Council present. This was to discuss the effect of Big Field expansion plans (a bigger clubhouse, more playing pitches and improved parking) upon the village. the National Trust representatives suggested a public meeting be called in Autumn to get a measure of public opinion about the proposals. This is being considered.
Elizabeth Bailey Field - This children's playing field at Strood Green has long been subject to being waterlogged for much of the autumn and winter - a group of parents are now raising money to have a proper drainage scheme put in place. If you'd like to help, contact with them can be made through Parish Councillor Ian Millward (842215)
Traffic Flow in Dorking - Although we do not normally become involved with matters outside the Parish, a projected plan from Surrey Highways to change the direction of traffic flow in Junction Road, Dorking (where Waitrose is situated) prompted a letter from us, since so many Brockham people shop in Dorking. The effect of the plan would be to cause all vehicles visiting Waitrose to exit via South Street, thus sending them round the one-way system. This could be time-consuming, especially in late afternoon.
Recreation Ground Committee needs a Secretary! - If you could help the Recreation Ground Committee by acting as their Secretary please let their Chairman, Bruce Farmer, know by ringing him on 843675 .The Committee plays a very valuable role in village life but needs a Secretary to function properly. Meetings are quarterly and the volume of letters and minutes is quite small - he tells us!
Next Meeting: Our next meeting will be at 7-30 p.m. in Brockham Recreation Ground Pavilion on Monday 1st September. Public Time at 9.00 approximately. Public welcome throughout the meeting.
Maurice Homewood (Vice-Chairman)
